TOMATO- PERSIMMON

Amana Orange Tomatoes are best described as an extremely flavorful orange tomato.  I know when I think of persimmon, I initially think of how bitter a green persimmon tastes.  However, once the persimmon is fully ripe, it has a delicious, sweet taste.  So do not let the name deter you – this is a very favorable tomato when ripe!

HISTORY OF THE TOMATO:  It is hard to determine the original source of the persimmon tomato.  There are sources that state the tomato was grown by Thomas Jefferson at Monticello.  Others claim that the tomato did not come into cultivation until the 1880’s.  And yet other sources state that the tomato was originated in Russia.  Take your pick!  However, regardless of the source, this is a wonderful orange tomato to try in your garden!
